Former BT site, Ipswich

Ipswich Borough Assets, together with Lanpro as planning consultants and Stanley Bragg as project architects, have been developing a comprehensive scheme for the former BT site, on Bibb Way, Ipswich. The emerging scheme responds positively to the development opportunity and to local housing needs.

The scheme design has specific regard to the environmental, recreational, ecological and social opportunities that exist within this part of Ipswich.
Pre-application engagement with Ipswich Borough Council’s planning team has already commenced. This early engagement has allowed the project team to proactively respond to comments made, and to refine earlier draft proposals. The emerging proposals are now ready to share with local residents and the general public.
Part of the proposed development – conversion of the former office block into flats – will require “Prior Notification” under Class O of the General Permitted Development Order. This would replace the previous Prior Notification achieved by the previous owners of the site. The remainder of the development – new houses and flats on the car park and former data centre – will require a full planning application, which we expect to submit early in 2021.

We now wish to hear the views of the local community in respect of the emerging scheme design before the project team finalises its plans.
