The Hub is a flagship centralised commercial facility promoting and adding value to regional food, comprising co-located food production, food research, education and ancillary businesses with shared storage, marketing and Norfolk-branded distribution facilities. The Hub is designed as a vehicle to repatriate food processing jobs back to Norfolk.
The scheme will deliver an estimated 3,000 unskilled and semi-skilled jobs on the edge of Greater Norwich. The scheme has full support of the Local Authorities and Central Government, with the production of a Supplementary Planning Guidance document to guide planned development and through the allocation of 16 ha of the site (the first phase) under a Local Development Order (LDO).
Lanpro assisted the client in progressing the scheme towards its inclusion within the LDO. Work undertaken included prepeation of the initial masterplan for the ‘Food Hub’ and the consideration of the need for an Environmental Impact Assessment associated with this. Lanpro’s role included leading on town planning and EIA matters; consideration of commercial demand and viability; and project management
Subsequently, Lanpro has gone on to secure planning permission in early 2019 for the first occupier into the LDO site, Condimentum, who will process mint and mustard seeds to produce raw product for the Colmans of Norwich brand.
