Two new nationally significant ground mounted solar projects announced to repower closing East Midlands power stations with renewable energy

Lanpro is pleased to be at the forefront of these two Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) being proposed by Island Green Power. Island Green Power are a leading international developer of renewable energy projects. They have delivered 26 solar projects worldwide totaling more than 1GW of capacity, including 14 solar projects in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

We have a long standing relationship with IGP having worked with them to deliver renewable energy projects throughout the UK delivering significant MW capacity in this important market. Our involvement in these projects reflects the strong collaborative culture we have developed with IGP and the wider team.

The proposals cross the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire county borders and both projects would generate renewable energy through ground mounted solar panels, which would be connected to the National Grid at the existing Cottam and West Burton power stations.

Further information about the proposals can be found here:

www.westburtonsolar.co.uk

The Cottam Solar Project would generate up to 600 MW of renewable energy and West Burton up to 480 MW both making significant contributions to the UKs commitments to meeting carbon emission targets. It is anticipated that the Development Consent Order (DCO) applications will be submitted following preparation of environmental assessments, design work and public consultation throughout 2021 and 2022.

These projects reflect the growing  contribution solar is making to energy resilience whilst transitioning away from fossil fuels and is a large and growing portfolio within the Lanpro business

Our work on this project is significant. We bring a wealth of industry leading technical expertise in Planning and Environmental Impact Assessment; Landscape & Arboriculture; and Archaeology & Heritage together with helping the client to co-ordinate sub-consultants and support with the stakeholder and public engagement work. Our role on the projects consolidates our lengthy involvement, expertise and capability of working in the renewable energy sector.
