Worthing Barn

Another successful Class Q approval obtained for Worthing Barn by the Lanpro and Proworks team, on behalf of our client.

Class Q prior approval provides a mechanism for the change of use of suitable agricultural buildings into residential dwellings or dwelling. The criteria and the associated planning legislation sets out very specific framework for development of this type, and as such Class Q approvals are becoming increasingly challenging to obtain due to Local Authorities enhanced scrutiny of submissions along with the application of the Class Q assessment criteria. However Lanpro has a team with specialist knowledge in this field which has meant we have continued to obtain successful outcomes for our clients, working alongside our design team Proworks .

On Worthing Barn, Proworks delivered a contemporary design conversion for the reuse of the barn, proposing 3 modern spacious residential dwellings split over two levels, with external balconies at first floor level to enable each of the dwellings to connect with the surrounding landscape and take in views across the open countryside around. As required by Class Q, the existing building structure and fabric were retained and enhanced with new openings, integrated balconies, external courtyards and colonnades. Consideration in the design detailing of the fenestration and timber cladding to the facades have ensured that the proposal enhances its surrounding context and will provide a modern ‘barn’ conversion suitable for family country living.
