Norwich Energy Innovation Park, Norfolk

Located on Stanfield Road, to the southeast of Wymondham, the Norwich Energy Innovation Park aims to provide an exemplar business enterprise centre for low carbon goods and services, supporting the creation of business start-ups as well as grow-on space for evolving business; with the ambition that businesses will be able to transition through this new facility as they grow, with spaces designed to aid flexibility.

The new business facilities will be housed within a high quality, low impact employment hub which has been designed to achieve BREEAM Outstanding accreditation and will be part of only a small number of developments designed and built to achieve BREEAM Outstanding, with the only other Norfolk based project completed to date being the UEA Enterprise Centre.

The facility is designed to offer a new collaborative employment community providing a range of office and workshop spaces, associated café facilities, communal working areas, and a social hub space set within a ‘parkland’ landscape, providing a recreational landscape for the users of the facility which includes electric vehicle charging spaces, cycle parking and enhancements to the existing site landscape; to create and enhance the habitat and biodiversity. The project was designed around a key sustainable narrative, which through the use of innovative mitigation measures and strategies was fundamental to the development of the project, from the building, external landscape, materials and low carbon transportation. It is envisaged that the facility will become an incubator for innovative start-up industries as well as providing grow-on space for businesses involved in digital technology, transportation, modular construction, and renewable energy, all of which are vital to address the current climate emergency.

Lanpro secured unanimous approval for the scheme at South Norfolk Planning Committee for our client George J Goff Ltd. with Planning Committee members complimenting the scheme and commending it green credentials and potential job creation.

Lanpro worked as part of the multidisciplinary team on the project, providing architectural design, planning consultancy, environmental impact assessment and landscape design and landscape assessment, managing the project from inception and successfully engaging with the Local Authority and consultees to achieve an exemplar scheme which provides low energy innovation, employment opportunities and economic development for the region.
